Ode to an enchilada
Ode to an enchilada
Sartenes on the stove, ingredients on the counter
Mom’s old blender from the late 70s
Struggling to blend but it does the job well
The smell of chiles in the air, burning eyes but it’s a good burn
Boullion, sal, ajo, y cebolla
Tortillas de maíz, queso, y carne de res
Making an organized mess is what I always thought
Oven on in a already hot house
Smells of comfort wafting through the front door
Be careful, que no se quema
Plates set out at the table in a stack
Mi apa gets his plate first, arroz, frijoles, enchiladas
Dressed with queso, lettuce, cebolla y tomatoes
Una cerveza fría, sun tea and Coca-cola
Buen provecho while we listen to mi apa talk about trabajo
